Ensuring Trust and Transparency in Fundraising

Challenge

Tallafi was conceived to tackle the challenges faced by individuals and organizations when raising funds or providing financial assistance. In Nigeria, the inclination to help through gifting is prevalent, but unfamiliar donors and recipients often hinder transparency. The platform’s mission is to create a secure, sustainable, efficient, and transparent environment where users can submit verifiable causes and seek or offer financial help. Tallafi aims to simplify fundraising for everyone, addressing the central challenge of transparency in existing platforms. It streamlines campaign management for fundraisers and ensures donors have visibility into fund utilization, fostering transparency and accountability.

Research & Ideations

To really adequately get a grasp of the problem I was tackling, I needed to delve deeper and get more information. Basically, my research had two goals – To understand the specific issues my target audience faced, and, to find gaps in the market where I could make a product that’s better and more focused on what users need. This approach helped me not only empathize with my users’ challenges but also create a product that’s fine-tuned to their needs.

Taking into account the objectives I had initially defined for the study, I proceeded to develop solutions aimed at alleviating the challenges experienced by my target audience.

Ensuring Trust and Transparency

To ensure trust and security on the Tallafi platform, we implemented a verification check mark system. When you hover over the check mark next to a fundraiser’s profile, it indicates that the fundraiser has undergone rigorous security checks and provided all necessary Know Your Customer (KYC) information. This verification process helps to eliminate fraud and instill confidence in users.

Donation Options

To simplify the donation process for users, we introduced an auto-donation feature. This feature enables donors to set up periodic automatic donations, ensuring a consistent and ongoing contribution to their chosen causes. It offers convenience and flexibility for donors who want to make regular contributions without manual intervention.

Share campaign with friends and family

To increase the visibility and reach of campaigns, we implemented a share feature. This feature enables users to spread the word about campaigns across various digital platforms, amplifying their impact. Donors can easily share campaigns with their colleagues and encourage them to contribute to similar causes, fostering a sense of community and collective support.

Tallafi Box

The Tallafi Box is a special wallet that can be funded publicly by a group of passionate and driven givers. It serves as a centralized pool of funds, designed to support qualified beneficiaries or targeted campaigns. When donors contribute to the Tallafi Box, their donations are pooled into a designated account, ready to be disbursed for the greater good.

  • Tallafi Partners or affiliate non-profits can create, own and manage a Tallafi Box, which is run according to pre-set configurations.

Fundraiser Tools

The Fundraiser feature offers a comprehensive dashboard that provides fundraisers with a clear overview of their campaign activity and performance metrics over time. This includes data such as the number of donations received, funds raised, and the progress towards the campaign goal. By having access to this information at their fingertips, fundraisers can easily track the success of their efforts, identify trends, and measure the effectiveness of different strategies or promotional activities.

Testing! Testing!!

We conducted post-development testing of the application due to development constraints and the urgency of entering the market. This allowed us to collect valuable initial feedback, which we promptly addressed and resolved before the official launch.

Design System & Marketing Efforts

Utilized the Ant Design System, employing an approach that entailed deconstructing the design into components. This approach facilitated the iterative enhancement of the high-fidelity design.

Also as part of our launch activities, I created social media marketing collaterals and our efforts extended to executing several social media campaigns aimed at educating the public about our donation platform. These campaigns included weekly email promotions and advertising across various platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and more.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the launch of Tallafi taught us valuable lessons about improving our donation application process. We realized the importance of adopting a mobile-first approach, as relying solely on the web interface limited accessibility for most potential donors. Therefore, we took steps to make Tallafi mobile first, ensuring a more intuitive experience for users.

Additionally, we recognized the need to enhance the payment pages to offer a wider range of support options for causes. This includes the ability to contribute through cryptocurrency and providing predefined minimum amounts. 

We will continue to iterate on the platform, striving to make the donation process even more intuitive for both donors and fundraisers.
